So excited to see my friend Lisa's book in print t So excited to see my friend Lisa's book in print today! @lisaappelo 's book Life Can Be Good Again is about how to put your life back together when it falls apart. What I love about Lisa's book is how it encourages us to look to God's unchanging faithfulness and His promises when life does not turn out as we hope. (Lisa is a young widow with 7 children, so she knows grief and loss.)

I've been reading this book for several weeks, but I can't wait to get the mail after work and hold a physical copy in my hands! I'll tell you more later this week about how Lisa encouraged me when my own life fell apart 4 years ago.

You can find #LifeCanBeGoodAgain wherever books are sold. I highly recommend it. ❤️

Taking time to cultivate some joy on a Sunday afte Taking time to cultivate some joy on a Sunday afternoon.

Lately I've been trying to be intentional to make time for things I enjoy: reading novels, talking walks, going thrifting, talking to one of my children (aka best friends) on the phone. ❤

When work is stressful, or ministry is messy, making time for fun does wonders for my soul and is so life-giving.

I'd love to hear from you, friends: what do you do for fun? What adds joy to your days?

(And I'm crossing my fingers we won't get another Texas frost.)

Happy International Women's Day! I am celebrating Happy International Women's Day! I am celebrating the friends from Afghanistan, Myanmar and Eritrea who made these beautiful coasters at our Women's Conversation Club at @nccrefugees .

For me, it's a privilege and joy to know them and get to hear their stories. ❤

Here is my hope for them and women every where:

"Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." Proverbs 31:25‭-‬26
Helping refugee kids believe in themselves and the Helping refugee kids believe in themselves and their value is one of the most important things we do in the after-school program I'm part of at @nccrefugees. Earlier this week, I helped a Burmese girl named Jessie learn some addition facts she was struggling with. My heart almost burst when Jessie smiled big and said, “I’m smart!”

I love working aside volunteers like Julie (pictured here) who show God's love to kids in a practical way on weekday afternoons. Jessie’s “aha” moment reminds me of the power of giving someone a few minutes of undivided attention. ❤

Who might need a few minutes of your attention today?

I remember the first time I seriously doubted God I remember the first time I seriously doubted God loved me. I was sitting on the doctor’s examination table and got a diagnosis that made me think I might spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. How could I believe God loved me when this was happening?

God’s love is often the first thing we doubt when life takes a wrong turn. We wonder, “Is God really good? Why is He letting this happen?”

Maybe you’ve asked these same questions in the hospital, clinic, or therapist’s office. When life gets hard is when we most need to hold on to God’s love, but also have the hardest time believing it.

I didn’t actually end up needing a wheelchair, but I learned important lessons about holding fast to the love of God. This week on FaithSpillingOver, I'm talking about what I learned. (Link in profile)

Now that Texas temps are rising, I'll miss seeing ice glisten in the trees, a rare display of God's glory here.

Did you get snow last week? What is your favorite thing about winter?
(We might as well enjoy what we can, right?)
